REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – State owned enterprise on electricity or PLN will import electricity supply from Malaysia and the contract will be signed next month. The Executive Director of PLN, Nur Pamudji, said PLN would import 50 megawatt from Malaysia's National Electricity Company, Tenaga Nasional Berhad, for West Kalimantan.

Pamudji refused to mention the value, but the estimated price is around nine cent USD per kilowatt hour (kWh). The import is projected to realize on 2014, with the contract of five years.

"The network to Malaysia is being made using the aid from Asian Development Bank (ADB)," Pamudji said.

PLN assessed that the step was effective to push the high producing cost due to fuel consumption. Compared to nine cent USD per kWh from Malaysia, the producing cost of fuel power plant reaches 30 cent USD per kWh.

PLN also plan to export 600 megawatt electricity in 2016. The policy on inter-state export and import of electricity is cited on Governmental Regulation No. 42/2012 on inter-state electricity trade.

The regulation says the export can be conducted after the local need is fulfilled. It also says that the selling price should not be subsidized and the quality is not decreased.
