REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- PT North Sumatra Hydro Energy (NSHE) as the developer of Batang Toru hydropower plant project will ensure to complete the enviromental impact analyses (Amdal) revision immediately. The revision was suggested directly by Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK).

According to PT NHSE senior enviromental advisor, Agus Djoko Ismanto, basically Amdal revision was part that necessary in construction process. He said that every change that made, there will be reparation.

"Everytime there is a change, we must fix it first, such as a change in facility location," said Agus on Wednesday (July 3).

Agus said one of Amdal point that was asked to be revised was to sharpen the study of orangutans. The study need to be deepen, in order to ensure appropriate mitigation measures if things that happen will endanger orangutans.

After conducting a number of studies, Agus said the study still showed consistent results. The project area is ensured as not the main habitat of orangutans.

According to the observation, orangutans always move outside the project area, especially on community lands. Agus admitted the project path passed several orangutans movement points.

However, that was considered reasonable due to orangutans always move, in the range 2.000 to 3.000 hectares. Agus said there was no orangutans that isolated in this hydropower plant construction project.

"From our monitoring, they (orangutans) are not settled and their rhythm comes and goes as usual," Agus added.

Agus said he cannot ensure yet when Amdal revision of Batang Toru hydropower plant project will be completed. He said the process was not entirely within NSHE's control and also must accept approval from the government.
