REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Bank Indonesia (BI) said Indonesian investment grade attracted Japanese investors. “Japanese investors see Indonesian economic situation is better than the Philippines and Vietnam,” Head of Public Relation Bureau at Bank Indonesia, Difi A Djohansyah, said.
However, the newly obtained investment grade from two agencies, Moddy’s Investors Service and Fitch Ratings, cannot immediately invite foreign fund to Indonesia. “At least we can be more confident,” Djohansyah said.
Djohansyah added there were other aspects affected Japanese investors’ interest, especially in the improvement of Indonesian economic situation. “Specifically, so far we have not indentified the impact of investment grade to Indonesia. I think it still depends on foreign investors’ trust in global economic situation,” he said.
The stronger Indonesian economic fundamental also influence the foreign investors. They assess that Indonesia can be equal to BRIC members (Brazil, Russia, India, and China). “Actually, before the global crises, Indonesia has properly acceptted the investment grade status,” he added.
