REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Attorney General HM Prasetyo has called on all Indonesians to wait for the judges' decision in the alleged case of blasphemy against Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, which is now in their hands.

"The case is now in the hands of the judges. It has been referred there. We have already submitted our demand and so it is now the turn of the judges to decide," he said here on Friday.

Prasetyo added that he also believed in the prosecutor, who had indicted the governor for violating Article 156, meaning that Ahok, as the governor is popularly called, has not committed religious blasphemy.

"The prosecutor believed that only Article 156 of the Criminal Code is applicable for the case referring to facts found during trial. Let the judges decide," he said.

The prosecutor has indicted Ahok for violating Article 156 regarding animosity against groups, instead of Article 156A, which is about religious blasphemy.

Based on that, the prosecutor has demanded a sentence of one year in prison within a probation period of two years meaning he will only be put in prison if he commits a crime during probation.

Muslims held a rally here on Friday to call for the judges' independence in reaching the verdict.

With regards to this, Attorney General Prasetyo said there has been no pressure in the case.

"The prosecutor has received no pressure. It was made based on facts and court evidence. We have agreed that our country is a law-based country. So anyone who might not be happy, they may file complaint through legal avenues," he said.
