REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Salam World and Nahdatul Ulama (NU) --one of the biggest Islamic organizations in Indonesia-- signed an agreement to cooperate, on Saturday (7/1). The agreement signed in Bosporus Bay, Turkey, between the Chairman Salam World, Abdul Vakhid Niyazov, and his counterpart from NU, Professor Said Aqil Siradj.

"After noon prayer and a series of discussions about Salam World, both parties signed the agreement witnessed by local and international journalists," Muhammad said, an official of Salam World, in an email sent to Republika, Sunday.

In a press statement, he quoted Niyazov, "This mutual cooperation has encouraged the Salam World, which will be launched this year, to move forward."

Muhammad explained, Salam World was the first Islamic based social networking and equipped with halal contents. The site was expected to be an alternative for internet users who sought internet services with ethical contents. Meanwhile, Siradj who arrived in Jakarta early Sunday, also praised the cooperation. He noted, both Salam World and NU shared similar goals. Hopefully, the two organizations could be hand in hand to build civilization and bridging the gap between Muslim and international community.  And Secretary General of NU, Marsudi Syuhud, added, the MoU between the two based on mutual sincerity and trust.

"While the NU can teach its ideas to the world using Salam World site, on the other way around Salam World will able to offer its service to the NU based communities. Tolerance, living together peacefully and fair treatment are our basic to this cooperation," Siradj said.

Siradj would sit in Executive Board Salam World based in Turkey. Other figures who also joined Salam World earlier were the Chairman of Muhammadiyah, Professor Din Syamsuddin and former Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
