Transportation minister distributes aid to Mt Agung evacuees

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KLUNGKUNG -- Indonesian Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi distributed logistics aid to the evacuees of Mount Agung at GOR Swecapura, Klungkung District, on Thursday.

"The Transportation Ministry, along with the committee of Asia-Europe (ASEM) Transport Ministers' Meeting (TMM) (ASEM-TMM), distributed logistics aid to the evacuees residing in the emergency camps," Sumadi noted here on Thursday.

The ministry proactively invited businesspersons and participants of the meeting to provide assistance to the evacuees.

The logistics aid comprised 55 tons of rice, tents, mattresses, and emergency kits.

"We have provided five buses to relocate the refugees to safe areas," he noted.

He lauded the local government's efforts in handling the refugees.

"The refugees are in a good condition," the minister remarked.

In addition, the government is readying 10 airports to redirect flights heading to the I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport on the resort island of Bali, if the airport is closed in the event of Mount Agung erupting.

The 10 airports are Juanda Airport in Surabaya, Blimbingsari Airport in Banyuwangi, Adi Sumarmo Airport in Surakarta, Lombok Airport in West Nusa Tenggara, Komodo Airport in Labuan Bajo, Hassanudin Airport in Makassar and Sepinggan Airport in Balikpapan, Sam Ratulangi Airport in Manado, Pattimura Airport in Ambon, and Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Banten.
