REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA— President Prabowo Subianto while chairing a limited meeting with several of his ministers at the State Palace, Jakarta, Monday (30/12/2024) afternoon, ordered his ministers to stop importing rice, salt, consumption sugar, and corn by 2025.
Coordinating Minister of Food Zulkifli Hasan informed the President's order to reporters during a press meeting at the State Palace complex after the meeting.
“Thank God, earlier in the first ratas (limited meeting), we have decided, no rice imports, Mr. Mentan yes, next year, no (import). No imports of rice, then corn, sugar for consumption, and salt,” Zulkifli Hasan said.
Therefore, Zulhas — the popular name Zulkifli — calls for no import quotas for such commodities by 2025. Information about import quotas was mentioned that Zulhas answered reporters' questions after a press conference, as he walked towards his vehicle.
In the same meeting, the President also decided to raise the government purchase price (HPP) of grain by Rp 500, i.e. from Rp 6,000 to Rp 6,500.
Later, the results of the meeting led by the President also decided to raise the benchmark purchase price (HAP) of corn by Rp 500, that is, from Rp 5,000 to Rp 5,500. That rise, Zulhas reveals, has gone through quite a long debate at the meeting.
“Earlier, through a long debate, the President had already decided, happy news for the farmers, the price of grain has been agreed to rise from Rp6,000 to Rp6,500. One, HPP rice, two maize, it was agreed that the price would rise from Rp5,000 to Rp5,500,” Zulhas said, sharing the results of the meeting at a press conference.
Later, the results of this afternoon's meeting, according to Zulhas, also resulted in a historic decision, namely that the government will buy and hold whatever produce the farmers produce of grain, rice, and corn.
“Whatever grain and maize production of farmers will be accommodated according to the prices set by the government,” Zulhas said.
He continued that the farmer's harvest would later be stored in warehouses owned by Bulog, the cooperative's parent, and a warehouse.
