REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- RI Vice President Ma'ruf Amin asked that the Ministry of Religion and Umrah and Umrah travel associations can educate prospective umrah worshippers about the rules that apply in Saudi Arabia.

The Vice President said the education provided could spare Umrah worshippers from cases that could potentially involve them with Saudi security forces.

“I hope that the Ministry of Religious Affairs will cooperate with the Umrah associations or also with the traveling public to educate the public so that those who are Umrah understand the rules that exist in Saudi Arabia,” the Vice President said in a press statement after watching the KDEKS of West Kalimantan Province, as witnessed in the presentation of the Secretariat of the Vice President in Jakarta on Thursday (28/3/2024).

This statement was in response to the incident of five Umrah worshippers from Indonesia who were rumored to be unable to return to the homeland.

They were arrested unilaterally by Saudi security forces on Tuesday (12/3) while sitting on the roadside. As a result of being accused of violating applicable law, all five were imprisoned in Saudi Arabia.

The Vice President also stated that the government through the Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in Jeddah has provided advocacy assistance.

“There has been some sort of advocacy assistance from KJRI. I thank KJRI for continuing to guide them so they can't go back because there is a problem,” he said.

Therefore, the Vice President asked the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Ministry of Religious Affairs) to provide education to the community. In this case, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs can collaborate with associations of umrah organizers or travel circles.

Nor does he want Indonesian Umrah worshippers to be considered beyond the rules set by the Saudi Arabian Government.
