REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia Train Company or KAI made sure that all KA passengers involved in the crash of KA Turangga and Commuterline Bandung Raya were safe. Only, the KAI employee who was the crew on the train died.
“We are deeply saddened by the deaths of four KA officers as a result of the accident. We greatly appreciate the services of those who have contributed to the company,” KAI VP of Public Relations Joni Martinus said in a written statement on Friday (5/1/2024).
The four victims who died were machinists, assistant masimists, stewards, and security. Joni made sure that the passengers who survived and had been evacuated were immediately taken to the nearest station to continue their journey using transportation provided by KAI
KAI said that so far no fatalities have occurred to passengers as a result of the Turangga Railway (KA) accident on the Surabaya Gubeng-Bandung link and Commuterline Bandung Raya. The accident occurred at kilometer 181+700 stretch of road between Haurpugur Station and Cicalengka Station on Friday (5/1/2024) at 06.03 WIB.
“Out of the total passengers of KA Turangga 287 and KA Commuterline 191 passengers, there are about 37 passengers who have minor injuries and have been taken to the nearest hospital,” Joni said.
He said minor injuries were taken to the hospital for treatment. Joni detailed that 32 people were taken to Cicalengka Hospital, two people were taken to Edelweis Hospital, two to AMC Hospital, and one person was taken to Santosa Hospital.
The rail line between Haurpugur-Cicalengka was temporarily impassable as a result of the accident. KAI is currently undertaking evacuation efforts for two sets of railways and repair of damaged rail lines.
