Police will strictly guard Habib Rizieq's trial

The police will closely guard the trial of Habib Rizieq Shihab in Jakarta.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The police will closely guard the trial of Indonesian cleric of Habib Rizieq Shihab in Jakarta.

Head of the Public Information Bureau of the National Police's Public Relations Division, Police Brigadier General Rusdi Hartono, said the Police Headquarters prepared reserve personnel to assist Polda Metro Jaya in securing Rizieq Shihab or HRS's offline trial. 

The trial will take place at the East Jakarta District Court.

"If Polda Metro Jaya needs additional personnel, the Police Headquarters is ready to back up it," said Rusdi in a press conference at the Police Public Relations Division, Jakarta, Wednesday (24/3). 

Polda Metro Jaya has made a security plan by predicting all the possibilities that will occur during Rizieq Shihab's offline trial at the East Jakarta District Court which is scheduled for Friday (26/3).

At the previous trial, 1,400 personnel secured the proceedings, avoiding the crowd of sympathizers who came to the trial.

The panel of judges at the East Jakarta District Court granted Rizieq Shihab's legal team request that the trial be held directly. The panel of judges chaired by Suparman Nyompa will determine Rizieq Shihab's case number 221 related to the crowd case in Petamburan and case number 226 regarding the crowd in Megamendung, attended by the defendant directly.

The panel of judges ordered that in the next trial agenda the defendant Rizieq Shihab will be brought directly to the trial room of the East Jakarta District Court. 

Rizieq Shihab's team of attorneys represented by Alamsyah Hanafiah at the trial also provided assurance that their clients would continue to carry out health protocols when presented in the courtroom.
