REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia's second largest Muslim organization Muhammadiyah and the Indonesian Mosque Council (DMI) held a meeting at the Muhammadiyah Building on Thursday. The two parties discussed Muslim community and mosque issues.

General Chairman of Muhammadiyah, Haedar Nashir, said that Muhammadiyah and DMI have a common goal of making the mosque as a center of economic institution, education, and Muslim community empowerment, besides its main function as a place of worship.

He stated that revitalizing the mosques as a place of activity for the Muslim community can also help narrow social gaps and could improve people's welfare.

By narrowing social gaps, mosques can contribute to overcoming the problems of the nation and the people. He added that mosques could also help tackle terrorism and radicalism.
