Ministry focuses on rehabilitation of terrorists' children

The service will be valid until the seven children recover psychologically.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA -- Ministry of Social Affairs would focus on social rehabilitation for seven children of suicide bombers in Surabaya and Sidoarjo in East Java province after being transferred by East Java Police on Tuesday. Social Affairs For security reason, Minister Idrus Marham refused to explain in detail location of the rehabilitation center.

"They are now in a safe and decent place," he said after picking up the terrorists' children at Halim Perdanakusuma airport, East Jakarta, on Tuesday night.

The minister said those children has to be protected. He believed they will adapt well in the rehabilitation center.

There are four stages of providing protection to such children, Director of Children's Rehabilitation of Ministry of Social Affairs Nahar stated in East Java Police Headquarters.

The first stage is quick handling, which is done by police and medical personnel. The second stage is social rehabilitation, which includes psycho-social assistance from the process of treatment to recovery.

"The third stage involves providing social assistance to the children as some of them are orphans. The fourth stage is protection and assistance during judicial process," he remarked.

He explained that a social problem arises when someone who is entitled to the rights to school and health does not receive it. Therefore, rehabilitation process aims to rehabilitate and restore the social conditions of children. "So that they can get general education in school," he elaborated.

The service will be valid until the seven children recover psychologically.

"It is like once the patient has recovered, the doctor will stop the treatment. As the parents of the children have died, the children should be taken care by their grandmother, brother, or sister," he pointed out.
