23 suspects of Surabaya bombings moved to Jakarta

Police have arrested 350 suspected terrorists following Surabaya bombings.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Twenty three suspects of a church bombing in Surabaya have been moved from East Java city to the National Police headquarters' jail in Jakarta. The police would continue further investigation in Jakarta, a police spokesman said.

"The suspects had been transported to Jakarta on Monday," the East Java police spokesman, Sen. Coms. Frans Barung Mangera, said here on Tuesday.

Seventeen of the 23 suspects were jailed in the East Java provincial police detention house, while six others were detained in the prison of Dukuh Pakis police in Surabaya, he said, adding that they were transported to Jakarta in two buses.

Arrested by the National Police anti-terrorist squad, Densus 88, the suspects would be tried in Surabaya because the attack occurred in the capital city of East Java Province, he said.

A series of suicide bombings committed by three families in Surabaya and Sidoarjo killed 13 perpetrators and 14 civilians as well as injured 42 others on May 13-14.

Earlier, the National Police said it has completed 170 files of suspected terrorist arrested after a series of attacks in Surabaya, East Java. All files to be submitted to the prosecution process.

“The file has been complete for trial,” said National Police spokesman Dedi Prasetyo on Tuesday (Sept 18).

Dedi explained 350 people have been arrested and detained, related to the terror cases, both in Jakarta and several regions. He explained the terrorist suspects are detained at the regional police office in various regions and in Jakarta.

According to Dedi, the arrest of terror suspects after Surabaya attacks was done to secure a number major events in Indonesia, such as International Monetary Fund (IMF) - World Bank Meeting and 2019 general election. He said terrorism is a potential security disturbance in the election.
