REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Ministry of Communication and Informatics denied there was the data leakage of citizen identity number (NIK) and Family Card (KK) used as pre paid mobile phone number registration. The ministry said what actually happened is misuse of NIK and KK.

"What actually happened is misuse of NIK and KK, unauthorized use of it for mobile phone registration. There is no data leak," said the ministry's public relations bureau acting (Plt) head, Noor Iza on Tuesday (March 6).

He affirmed using false NIK and KK in mobile phone registration is a violation of the law. Earlier, the ministry has anticipated this issue by providing a feature to enable people to check cellular number listed on behalf their NIK. People who found their NIK and KK used by others are encouraged to contact the operators outlet.

The ministry urged people to be careful and maintain their identity. Do not tell others carelessly about the details of identity, for example when asking for help to register.

"Don't be recorded, photocopied, and photographed, except when we are at official operator outlets," Iza added.

Mobile phone registration was intended not only to provide protection for the users, but also prevent operator losses due to data traffic disruptions. This step is also part to maintain healthy telecommunication industry because the service providers do not need to spend much money to print a new sim card.

People's number who are not register until the deadline on February 28 will be blocked gradually. Within 30 days after the deadline, the unregistered number can not make outgoing calls, then 15 days later can not accept incoming calls.

The success of registration will provide legal protection for the people from criminal acts such as fraud, terrorism, extortion and crime on the website, Noor Iza explained.
