Prepaid SIM card registration's deadline is on Feb 28

More than 195 millions prepaid SIM cards have registered to the government.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister of Communications and Information Rudiantara reminded the deadline to register prepaid SIM card is on February 28. Therefore, users who have not done it were urged to register before the due date.

Rudiantara emphasized prepaid SIM card registration is important for public safety and the comfort of telecommunication service users.

"Who has never received a short electronic message (SMS) saying "Mama minta pulsa (mom asks for mobile credit)"? A credit (offering). We don't know who sent the messenges. The purpose of the registration is to reduce the inconvenience," said Rudiantara on Friday (Feb 9).

Prepaid SIM card registration is free and only use citizen identity number (NIK) and Family Card (KK) number. To register, user must send a short electronic message (SMS) to 4444 with the format NIK#Family Card (KK) number#.

Up until Thursday (Feb 8), more than 195 million numbers have registered with an average increase of 1,5 million telecommunication users per day.

Prepaid SIM card registration not only to provide protection for the users, but also prevent operator losses due to data traffic disruptions. This step is also part to maintain healthy telecommunication industry because service providers do not need to spend much money to print a new sim card.

People's number who are not registered until the deadline on February 28 will be blocked gradually. Within 30 days after the deadline, the unregistered number can not make outgoing calls, then 15 days later they can not accept incoming calls.
