Seven best places to see total lunar eclipse in Jakarta

Skywatchers in Jakarta are invited to see the spectacular lunar event.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Jakarta Tourism and Culture office (Disparbud) has prepared several locations for people who wish to see total lunar eclipse on next January 31. There will be seven places which prepared for public and be opened from 5 pm until 11 pm.

Disparbud head Tinia Budiarti said, skywatchers in Jakarta may come to Thousand Islands, Taman Ismail Marzuki Planetarium, National Monument (Monas), Setu Babakan, Fatahillah Square, and Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, or Ancol beach to see total lunar eclipse. Those locations can be accessed free of charge, except at Ancol, where they simply should pay at the gate only.

"It will be free of charge, but in Ancol they can enjoy lunar eclipse by simply pay first at the gate only," said Tinia.

Earlier, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has ordered related agencies to prepare the places to see the spectacular lunar event. He wanted people to be informed about the phenomenon, especially to school students.

The teachers is urged to inform that lunar ecplise as the phenomenon which become the learning science, also the way to appreciate the God's greatness. 

Anies also has instructed Mental and Spiritual Education office to encourage all the mosques in Jakarta to perform eclipse prayers (shalat gerhana) during the time. The phenomenon is expected to occur at 7.51 pm with peak at 8.29 pm and ends at 21.07 pm.
