Blanja.com targets $150 million transaction in 2018

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The first and only state-owned e-commerce Blanja.com has targeted US$150 million transaction in 2018, the head of public relations, Rieka Handayani, said during the Indonesia Business & Development (IBD) Expo here on Thursday.

"Since we have reached Rp1.3 trillion (about $97 million) target this year, we are optimistic about improving our goal in 2018," Handayani remarked at the event, which will be hosted from Sept 20 to 23 at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC).

Blanja.com has provided an online platform for the local micro-middle businesses to market their products both in the country and overseas.

"Our platform is similar to the online mall. Thus, the tenants, including the big distributors, some state-owned major companies, as well as the micro-middle businesses, have been listed and have marketed their products in our website," she remarked on Thursday.

Since the e-commerce was owned by the government, about 118 products of the state-owned corporations were obliged to be marketed in Blanja.com, she reiterated.

Beside some major goods, the online trading platform has also generated about 98 thousand products of 22 thousand micro-middle businesses.

Established since the end of 2014, Blanja.com started as a joint venture between the state-owned telecommunication company, PT Telkom Indonesia, and the US-based multinational e-commerce corporation, eBay Inc.

Following the endorsement granted by the State-Owned Enterprise Ministry (Kemen in 2016, the "Blanja.com" then continued to support the Creative BUMN House (RKB) program, comprising of 12 thousand products of 4 thousand small enterprises.

"The (RKB) program now has existed in about 540 districts across the country, and this initiative aims to assist the small and middle enterprises to build, develop, and market their products online," Handayani pointed out.

She further explained that the program as well as the Blanja.com online marketplace were part of the nation's efforts to improve the digital sector in business sector.

"Digitization of the micro, small and middle enterprises (UMKM) is part of the government's commitment to equally distribute the economy growth in all regions across the country," President Joko Widodo remarked earlier.

Meanwhile, the State-Owned Enterprises Minister, Rini Soemarno, remarked that thecedigitization of small enterprises has been marked as a concrete implementation of the president's mission to set Indonesia as the largest digital economy among nations in Southeast Asia region by 2020.

"The ministry has called all the state-owned enterprises to market their products in the online platform," Soemarno added.
