Pre-trial of Setya Novanto to be continued next week

House Speaker Setya Novanto has been named suspect in e-ID card procurement corruption case by KPK. He filed a pro-trial suits against KPK and the first hearing was held on Tuesday (September 12).

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The pre-trial hearing filed by Setya Novanto as suspect in e-ID card procurement corruption case was postponed by the South Jakarta District Court, on Tuesday (September 12). The trial will be held back on Wednesday (September 20) next week. 

Judge Cepi Iskandar decided to postpone today's hearing upon request of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). The anti-graft body needed addtional time to prepare documents and other things required for pre-trial. 

KPK demanded the judge to adjourn the trial for up three weeks. However, the legal counsel of Novanto objected and felt the it was too long. So they asked the judge to postpone for three days. 

"We ask for three days according to the existing provisions. Three weeks is too long," said the attorney of Novanto, Ketut Mulya Arsana at the Main Court Room of South Jakarta District Court on Tuesday.

After hearing and considering requests from both parties, judge Cepi decided to postpone the pretrial for one week. "The next hearing will be on Wednesday (September 20). The applicant has to read the request and  KPK has to answer it. So it not waste time," said Cepi. 

Novanto filed a pre-trial lawsuit against KPK after the anti-graft body named him as suspect in the e-ID card procurement corruption case. This case caused state losses up to Rp 2,3 trillion. 

So far, the KPK has set five suspect related to the this case. They included former director general of poppulation and civil registry of Ministry of Home Affairs Irman, director of data and information of Ministry of Home Affairs. Both have been sentenced by the Panel of Justice Corruption Court of Jakarta, each seven years dan five years in prison. 

Then the businessman Andi Agustinus alias Andi Narogong who currently undergoing trial in the Corruption Court of Jakarta. And ths latest members of the house of representative of Golkar Fraction Markus Nari.
