REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia's House Speaker Setya Novanto failed to respond to first summon by the Corruption Eradiction Commision (KPK) on Monday (September 11). He could not come as he has been hospitalized since Sunday night.

Secretary General of Golongan Karya (Golkar) Party Idrus Marham said based on doctors examination, Novanto unable to meet the summon.

"I just came from the hospital and based on the examination of doctor's team, Novanto is not possible to attend his first investigation as a suspect in e-ID card procurement corruption case," Marham said on Monday.

Idrus explained Novanto came to Siloam Hospital on Sunday night as he suffered high blood sugar. After that, he must immediately undergone treatment. KPK has named novanto as suspect in e-ID case, which reportedly caused IDR 23 trillion in state losses on last July.

Novanto during his chairmanship of the Golkar Party faction in the House of Representatives from 2010 to 2012 had allegedly played a role through businessman Andi Agustinus alias Andi Narogong, while planning and budgeting for E-KTP procurement, and conditioning the participants and winners of the bids for the E-KTP procurement.

He is suspected of playing an important role both in the process of planning and discussing the budget at the DPR and in the process of goods procurement and service of e-ID
