REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia's Minister of Health Nila F. Moeloek said hospitals must help patients who are in emergency conditions. She also emphasized not to prioritize administration issue.

"In an emergency situation, hospitals should not calculate the cost, it was regulated in laws," said Nila at Police Science College (STIK), Jakarta, Monday (September 9).

Her statement was to respond for case of baby Tiara Deborah Simanjorang's death at Mitra Keluarga Hospital, Kalideres, West Jakarta. However, Nila still have no details about that case.

"Hospital said their staffs helped Debora, so we must learn further about that baby condition first," she added.

She has sent staffs from Ministry of Health to investigate Mitra keluarga Kalideres Hospital. Nila needed the chronology from all related parties.

The death of 4-months-old baby Debora on the weekend at Mitra Keluarga Hospital has brought questions regarding the responsibility of healthcare providers in helping poor patients. Especially, people who use Health Care and Social Security Agency (BPJS Kesehatan).

Debora had flu for a week before being brought to the hospital. She got first treatment at RSUD Cengkareng, West Jakarta. Doctor gave her medicine and nebulizer therapy to treat Deborah's cold. But her condition continue to worse on Saturday (September 2) night.

She kept on sweating and had shortness of breath. Debora's parents then took her to Mitra Keluarga Kalideres Hospital. The doctor on duty mmediately gave first aid by suctioning.

Doctors the recommended Debora to be treated at pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). They also advised her parents to deal with the hospital administration so her daughter could be transferred immediately to intensive care.

However, Mitra keluarga Kalideres Hospital did not serve patients with BPJS. Debora's parents, Henny Silalahi and Rudianto Simanjorang, the must pay a down payment medical treatment for IDR 19,8 million.
