REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian government has continued to expand some of its potential products to the Japanese market, the Trade Ministry's International Business Negotiation, Imam Pambagyo, said here on Thursday.

Following the General Review of the 5th Meeting of Indonesia-Japan Partnership Agreement (IJEPA) in Bali, from Aug 29 to 30, Pambagyo further stated that the two countries will continue to immediately complete the negotiations for implementing the business agreement.

"Instead of the output, our orientation would be more into products' incomes," Pambagyo said, in his written statement received by Antara, in Jakarta on Thursday.

During the forum, attended by the Japanese delegation led by its Foreign Affairs Ministry's Director General Deputy, Keiya Iida, Pambagyo highlighted some products, including tuna fish, the Sorbitol sweetener, banana, pineapple, and coffee, to the Japanese market.

Meanwhile, the forum also discussed some issues, such as the terms of reference on the IJEPA general review, the procedure on market expansion, investment, labor (movement on natural person), and the procurement.

After being delayed in 2015, Pambagyo noted that the forum was a momentum to reinforce the implementations of the business agreement set by the two countries.

"Because the agreement has been established for over nine years, the two countries need to review their commitments, mainly in the current economic condition. We want to clearly strengthen our partnerships in the economy sector, in accordance with the mutual and sustainability principles," he remarked, while adding that another talk will be held in Tokyo on Sept 19 and 20.

According to the agreement's article 151, Indonesia and Japan could discuss the general review on the implementation of the pact in the fifth year after being effective on July 1, 2008.

Following the agreement, Indonesia's exports to Japan has increased by Rp16.1 billion in 2016. Meanwhile, the exports tariff preference (SKA) also marked a positive trend by 16.48 percent during 2008 to 2016 period.
