REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Vice Chairman of Indonesian Council of Ulemas (MUI), Zainut Tauhid Saadi, said Viktor Laiskodat's speech has caused polemic and might trigger uproar in the society.
Therefore, he call on all parties to refrain themselves from Viktor's provocative speech. "Refrain ourselves and do not get provoked to give statements that can heat up the situation," he said in a written statement to Republika.co.id, on Tuesday (August 8).
Zainut said religious believers in Indonesia have been living in harmony. Viktor's speech could disrupt the harmony.
He urged political elites to immediately resolve the problem with the approach of deliberation. They should put forward the spirit of statesmanship, kinship and national brotherhood to dampen the turmoil occured after Viktor's speech. "Do not let it became widespread and widened," he said.
In case the deliberations between political elites could not reach to an agreement, Zainut advised legal approach.

Nasdem Party politician, Viktor Laiskodat, made a provocative statement during his visit to Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara.
Viktor said political parties namely Gerindra, PAN, Democrat, and Prosperous Justice Party as supporters of Islamic extremist group in Indonesia. He assessed the four parties agree with the idea of upholding Caliphate in Indonesia.
