REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Ministry of Education and Culture reminded the educational agency of every region to punish the principals who were proven to commercialize the schools’ quotas in learners’ registration process during 2017.

“Commercialization of schools’ quotas is prohibited. The Head of Educational Agency must punish the principal who did it,” said the Director General of Primary and Secondary Education of Kemendikbud Hamid Muhammad to Republika.co.id on Sunday (July 2).

Commercialization of schools’ quotas was commonly occured during the student's registration process. To solve this, Minister of Education and Culture regulation No. 17 in 2017 was issued.

An article stated that 20 percents of the schools’ quotas should be provided for poor students who live around the schools. The regulation also aimed at eliminating favorite schools’ label.

Hamid said the schools had to meet the minimum quotas. However, the Ministry let the schools which difficult to meet the quotas for poor students around, the quota might be given to them outside the zone.

“When there is no poor student anymore, it might be given for the students outside the zone,” said Hamid.
