REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, DENPASAR -- Tesla Inc. and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has expressed interest in investing in Indonesia after seeing the implementation of Starlink, a satellite-based internet service, in Bali and Maluku.
“In the future, in the long term, my company will make it possible, very possible, to invest in Indonesia,” Elon Musk said when he met after watching the Service Showcase by the Ministry of Health of Indonesia in Denpasar, Bali, Sunday (19/5/2024).
However, when asked whether the investment in question is related to electric vehicles, Elon was reluctant to reveal it and said that at the moment, he is focused on launching Starlink in Indonesia.
“We want to keep the word on that for other occasions,” Elon said.
Regarding Starlink, Elon said that he is excited to bring connectivity to various places in Indonesia, especially 3T or lagging, leading, and outlying. For Elon, the Internet connection can bring meaningful change to its recipients, especially if people are helped to gain access to education and health services.
“The internet can even be a lifesaver. Like I said, when you can access the internet, you can learn a lot,” Elon said.
Therefore, he repeatedly emphasizes the importance of an internet connection for the entire region, so that anyone can access information from anywhere and at any time. “With the internet, in addition to learning a lot, anyone can sell their goods or services from anywhere,” Elon said.
Elon arrived at Sumerta Kelod Nursing Center, Denpasar, Bali, at 16.45 WITA.
Earlier, Elon Musk was scheduled to launch Starlink with President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). However, Jokowi refused to attend. Thus, when launching Starlink, Elon Musk was accompanied by Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Minister of Communications and Informatics Budi Arie Setiadi, and Minister of Marine and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono.
