REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SORONG -- An earthquake measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale hit Teluk Bintuni district in West Papua province on Sunday but it caused no material damage, according to the local geophysics station.
The epicenter of the quake which struck at 02.56 p.m. local time was on land some 24 km northeast of Bintuni district at a depth of 19 km, Head of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Office in Sorong, Andri W Bidang said.
He said the quake was felt by people especially those staying at a storey building in Teluk Bintuni district.
West Papua is one of the quake-prone provinces in Indonesia.
