REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Started from April, Hajj registration would involve the record of fingerprints and photos. It was not only implemented to the regular hajj, but also the special quotas.  “The fingerprint record for special pilgrim is inseparable from the new registration system,” said the head of sub-directorate of Hajj Registration Noer Alya Fitra in Jakarta on Thursday.

Nafit said this was an innovation of the registration system improvement. By using the fingerprint, pilgrim’s data and information would be more complete. The fingerprint was needed in accordance to the new regulation to register 10 years before the last pilgrimage. It might be used to detect the registration of people who ever joined the pilgrimage. "Fingerprint may be a preventive effort to the use of pilgrim’s identity by any irresponsible parties,” he said.

By the new mechanism, the pilgrim candidate should come to the registration point. It could not be represented by other people. The registration process was conducted by the candidate, so they know exactly the cost and they were registered to which special pilgrimage organizer (PIHK).

Nafit said the old system allowed the pilgrim to be represented by other people in the registration process. As the result, there were pilgrims who did not get information about when did he was registered, in what PIHK, and how much was the cost.

"If it is represented, the pilgrims are depended on their representatives. If they hold the mandate well, say thanks to Allah. But if they don’t, the pilgrim may never been registered and the money may be deposited to nowhere,” he said.

By the new system, the pilgrims should have their own bank account, deposit their money,and register to the regional office of the Ministry of Religions. The system gave a certainty to the pilgrim related to the registration statues. The initial deposit fund was safe in the Ministry of Religion’s account, and the pilgrim’s identity was saved completely.
