President Prabowo Expresses Condolences for the Commuter Line Collision Tragedy in Bekasi

Evacuation of accident victims takes up to eight hours.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto expressed his deep condolences to all the victims and families of the victims of the train accident involving KA Argo Bromo Anggrek and KRL Commuter Line at East Bekasi Station, West Java, on Monday (27/4/2026) evening. This was stated by the President after visiting the victims who are currently being treated at Bekasi Hospital, Bekasi City, West Java, Tuesday (28/4/2026) morning.

“Today I came to Bekasi hospital, of course everyone is concerned, shocked by the accident that has occurred. I express my condolences on a personal behalf, on behalf of the government,” Prabowo said, monitored from a YouTube live stream of the Presidential Secretariat.

Prabowo said the government would conduct an investigation to determine the cause of the accident. “We're going to hold an investigation into how it happened,” the president said.

President Prabowo visited the victims of the Argo Bromo Railway Accident (KA) with Commuter Line (KRL) carriages that are currently being treated at Bekasi Hospital, Bekasi City, West Java, on Tuesday morning. President Prabowo, dressed in black peci and a beige safari top, arrived at Bekasi Hospital at 8:39pm. The President's arrival was accompanied by Cabinet Secretary (Seskab) Teddy Indra Wijaya, Minister of State Secretary (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi, and Chief Personal Secretary of the President Rizky Irmansyah.

At the site, the President's arrival was welcomed by Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi, KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin, and local regional officials. Upon arrival at Bekasi Hospital, President Prabowo immediately entered the treatment room and met the victims. The moment the President visited the victims who are currently being treated in Bekasi Hospital was closed.

In his latest press conference, President Director of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Bobby Rasyidin stated that the number of victims who died as a result of the train accident in East Bekasi, West Java, was seven people as of Tuesday at 6:30pm. Bobby said in addition to the dead, dozens of passengers suffered injuries and were still undergoing treatment, while as many as three victims were still trapped inside the train.

“Seven people died, 81 people were injured and treated, and those still trapped were about three people trapped in the train,” Bobby said as quoted from an official post by the Cabinet Secretariat in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Bobby explains the evacuation of the victims lasted quite a long time because it was done with great care to maintain the safety of the victims. “This evacuation lasted eight hours and we are exercising extreme caution,” Bobby said.
