REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Freeport Indonesia layed off 25 senior employees as a negotiation regarding the convertion of its contract of work (CoW) to a special mining license (IUPK). The corporation would lay off 12 thousands employees, said the President and CEO of Freeport-McMoran Inc, Richard Adkerson last week.

The Papua Police Chief Inspector General Paulus Waterpau said the lay off was a unilateral policy. It would be done gradually from the foreign workers to the Papuan. 

"What they (Freeport) did is, first, they lay off its foreign workers," said Paulus by phone on Sunday.

After that, Freeport would lay off the Indonesian employees from outside Papua. Lastly, they would also lay off the Papuan (Timika) people. 

Paulus hoped the condition would not be prolong. He reminded the lay off to Papuan workers might trigger a chaos.

"We hope Freeport employees from Papua is not layed off. It will be chaos," he said.
