The death of Indonesian IS commander has not been verified

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, NUSA DUA -- National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT) has not been able to verify the information on the death of Abu Jandal or Salim Mubarak Atamimi, a Indonesian citizen dubbed as Islamic State (ISIS) army chief, in Iraq. BNPT are still tracking the news.

"We couldn't ensure Abu Jandal death until we find significant evidences, namely physical characteristics, fingerprints, and DNA tests," said Deputy for International Cooperation of BNPT Inspector General Petrus Golose at Nusa Dua, Bali, on Wednesday (11/9).

He acknowledged the information regarding the death of Abu Jandal has been spread in cyberspace. ''We could not rely on information in the internet,'' he said.

To discover the truth, BNPT had sent a team to Iraq. Abu Jandal and another ISIS fighters Bahrun Bahrumsyah Naim alongside with three other Indonesians allegedly involved in terror attacks Thamrin's (Jakarta) bombing in January 2016.
