REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) has overseen a number of Islamic State (ISIS) militants who returned to the Indonesia.

BNPT chief Suhardi Alius expected at least 50 ISIS militants returned to Indonesia after military operation run by Iraqi government to seize Mosul. "We've reported to the President there were about 50 followers who returned to Indonesia and about 400 people still there (at Mosul)," said Suhardi, after meeting with Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) at the State Palace in Jakarta, Friday (10/28).

To prevent the spreading of ISIS doctrine in Indonesia, BNPT will strengthen preventive efforts. BNPT will involve former commander of the ISIS to provide deradicalization program so that messages could be delivered effectively.

In addition, BNPT also approached children whose parents support terrorist activities. They should be embraced and be given enlightenment. "If they are marginalized, they will be more militant than their parents. We've seen the example from Imam Samudera's son, (Umar Jundulhaq)" he said.

Suhardi said, he has cooperated with 17 ministries/agencies in counter-terrorism efforts.
