A policeman brother patches IS sticker, stabs Tangerang police officers

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- A man, identified as SA, patched a small IS flag sticker on police post wall then attacked three officers brutally. "He came with motorcycle, stopped at the Cikokol police post, and put up a sticker resemble IS symbol," Junaedi, a witness, said.

According to Junaedi, the police approached SA and asked him about the sticker. The police also asked the 21 years-old's IDs. "He took something out from his cloth as if he was going to show his identification cards," Junaedi said.

The police, Junaedi said, were unaware of the coming attack. The assailant attacked three officers by cleaver brutally.

The Tangerang Metro Police chief Commissioner Efendi badly injured and two other officers deeply wounded. "The perpetrator stabbed Commissioner Efendi at the back, traumatized his heart and now being treated in the Siloam Hospital," Jakarta Metro Police Spokesman Awi Setiyono said.

Meanwhile, First Inspector (Iptu) Bambang Haryadi was stabbed in the abdomen. While traffic police Chief. Brig Sukardi suffered wound in his back and right arm. "Both of them were treated at the Tangerang Regional Hospital," Awi said.

The police are still investigating the case, including the possibility SA acted individually or was linked to terrorist group IS. So far, SA known has two brothers serve as police officers in Tangerang. He once lived with one of his brother for a couple of years. SA was a loner, preferred to browse the internet than talking to others.

The attack happened at the Yuppentek School, in the Cikokol, Tangerang City, Banten at around 07:30 am on Thursday. Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung has confirmed that President Joko Widodo has received report from national police chief Gen. Tito Karnavian. He said the perpetrator allegedly has a link with radical group. "The National Police chief will announce investigation result," Pramono said  at the state palace in Jakarta.

After attacking the police, SA tried to run away. The police stopped him by two gunshots at his thigh and another one at his abdomen. He died from loss of blood while on the way to the hospital.
