REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, AMBON -- Garuda Indonesia plans to open new flight route linking Ambon in the Maluku province to Nabire in Papua province starting on September 18 this year.
"In the near future we will open a Ambon-Nabire new flight route as part of efforts to increase the number of air passengers from Papua to Ambon," Garuda Indonesia General Manager for Ambon branch, Sonny Pongoh said here on Wednesday (31/8).
The national flag carrier plans to open the flight route after receiving a decision from the Garuda Indonesia management and the director general of air transportation.
"The opening of a new flight route must be based on a proposal from branch office. We see the route is worth opening now that the number of air passengers in the eastern part of Indonesia continues to increase particularly those traveling on Ambon-Nabire route," he said.
