REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, WAMENA -- Some two hundred foreign tourists from various parts of the world, such as China, Australia, and Singapore, thronged the locations of the 27th Baliem Valley Cultural Festival 2016 in Walesi District, Jayawijaya, Papua, on Monday.
Head of Tourism Jayawijaya Alpius Wetipo noted in Wamena on Monday that besides the cultural festival, the natural panorama and unique culture in the mountainous area, especially in Baliem Jayawijaya, had always attracted tourists.
"Therefore, an annual event organized by the Jayawijaya Government would definitely attract hundreds of tourists from abroad," he affirmed.
According to Alpius, apart from the Baliem Valley Cultural Festival, Jayawijaya has several attractions that are well-known in foreign countries, such as Pasir Putih, Mummy, Habema Lake, Lake Brine, and Hanging Bridge.
"Hence, in addition to enjoying the dances and attractions showcased in the Baliem Valley Cultural Festival, foreign visitors can explore various tourist attractions in Jayawijaya," he remarked.
He said the Government Tourism Office of Jayawijaya also had to manage the tourist spots, so that illegal levies are not imposed on the tourists.
Seconding Alpius' views, Smith Jr, one of the tourists from Australia, said he was enjoying nature and all the other attractions in Wamena.
"Absolutely satisfied with all of the Papua culture in Wamena," he added.
