REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, AMBON -- President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi's) cabinet reshuffle on Wednesday was intended to maintain political stability, a member of the Regional Representatives Council from Maluku Nono Sampono stated.
"The president has conducted a cabinet reshuffle as part of the efforts to realize his vision and mission," Sampono said here on Thursday.
The senator called on all parties to support the decision of the head of state to reshuffle his cabinet.
"I laud the decision of the president to reshuffle his cabinet. The new cabinet is expected to improve the welfare of people. We should give the new ministers an opportunity to perform," Sampono remarked.
Sampono noted that the appointment of Sri Mulyani Indrawati, a former finance minister and managing director of the World Bank, to the finance minister's post was aimed at maintaining the stability of the Indonesian economy.
General Chairman of the National Democratic Party Surya Paloh had earlier stated that the second cabinet reshuffle, particularly the appointment of Sri Mulyani as the finance minister, will create a positive sentiment for the economy and the market.
"We know that the market pins the greatest hopes on Sri Mulyani," Paloh affirmed while attending the inauguration of the new ministers on Wednesday.
Paloh lauded the Working Cabinet and expressed optimism after the second round of reshuffle.
"The Working Cabinet will perform far better and effectively than the previous one," he emphasized.
Meanwhile, political observer Edi Indrizal of West Sumatra's Andalas University remarked that the cabinet reshuffle was an effort by the president to accelerate economic development. Seeing the new line-up of ministers, the economic team is stronger.
"Although the reshuffle is not inseparable from political consideration, the composition of ministers in the new cabinet line-up demonstrates that President Jokowi is serious about improving the economic conditions as is reflected by the inclusion of Sri Mulyani," Indrizal added.
