Fake vaccines revealed after infant death

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The national police has uncovered maker and seller fake vaccines for infants. The case revealed from the information from societies and media reports about babies who died after being immunized.

"This case has been investigated since three months ago and now revealed that the fake vaccines was distributed for immunization of babies  and children has conducted since last dozen years," Director of Special Economic Crime Directorate of the National Police, Brigadier General Agung Setya in Jakarta, on Friday (24/6).

He added, based on the information, the Police Criminal investigators then collects the data and facts to make an inquiry. And his institution regretted the findings of this case. Agung appealed to the public and stakeholders to be more concerned about the quality of children's health.

"Disclosure of fake vaccines have been troubling the communities. The case should reveal until the roots," he said.

When asked about the possibility of the involvement of the hospitals and the Ministry of Health in this case, the Agung said that now still under investigation.

"Certain hospital, drugstore and midwife, there are indication of involvement," he said.

He added that the Police Criminal Investigation will coordinate with the Ministry of Health in order to record the number of infants who allegedly ever vaccinated using fake vaccines.

"We will coordinate with the Ministry of Health to assess toddlers who had received fake vaccines and can recover their condition with the vaccines," he explained.

Agung said it has sent samples of fake vaccines to Central Forensic Science Laboratory (Puslabfor) and examine the composition of its ingredients.

"We have been checking the sample of fake vaccines in Laboratory. We also send samples to  Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM), then BPOM identify the composition of the materials," he said.

Police has arrested 10 suspects in the case of the distribution of fake vaccines for toddlers.

"Total suspects in this case there are 10 people consisted of five producers, two couriers, two sellers, and one label printer," he said.
