REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANJARMASIN -- A 14-year-old girl was arrested on Monday for orchestrating her own fake abduction in Banjarmasin.
The victim who is also the suspect, Fatmawati, a resident of Teluk Tiram II of West Banjarmasin Sub-district, admitted to having fled her home on Sunday (April 3) over claims of alleged harassment by her father.
"I ran away from home after the Isya prayer on Sunday night," Fatmawati remarked.
The girl was allegedly not permitted by her father to leave the house to play due to which she fled to the Kebun Sayur Street and stopped a car to hitch a ride to Nagasari Street in Central Banjarmasin Sub-district.
Fatmawati, thereafter, faked her kidnapping by pouring a red-tinted antibiotic on her skin to replicate the appearance of blood and then requested some of her friends to broadcast a message saying she was being kidnapped, and therefore, a ransom worth Rp50 million was needed to secure her release.
Some fire brigade personnel found the girl at the street with blood stains and then took her to a local hospital for treatment.
"It was all engineered by Fatmawati herself, and the kidnapping plot is a fabrication," spokesperson of the local police Ipda Arya said while quoting Chief of the Crime and Investigation Unit of the Banjarmasin Resort Police Station Commissioner Wildan Alberd Sik.
The investigation revealed that the blood stains were not real but those of an antibiotic, and there were no signs or indications of torture or harassment on her body.
Fatmawati was brought to the Women and Child Protection Unit of the local police office for further questioning regarding the kidnapping incident.
"We only interrogated her to gather some information and thereafter allowed her to go home. She was picked up by her parents," the local officer added.
