REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, Semarang -- The government of France is ready to help the Indonesian province of Central Java to develop environmentally friendly areas or "eco districts," according to French Ambassador to Indonesia Corinne Breuze.

"We are ready and committed to helping Central Java realize eco districts as France has conducted various feasibility studies in the environmental field, including in the city of Semarang," Breuze remarked here on Thursday.

The French ambassador explained that the Semarang city administration was facing a major environmental problem, which had the potential to cause flooding and land subsidence.

Accordingly, Breuze noted that the French government was keen on assisting Central Java to find a solution to this environmental problem, both on the short-term and long-term basis.

He said the French government had even discussed the matter with the minister of public works and public housing and the National Development Planning Board to develop environment projects in Semarang city.

"We are ready to help and share our experience in the field of environment both at the government and private level," the French ambassador noted.

In the meantime, Central Java Vice Governor Heru Sudjatmoko said he positively welcomed the offer of cooperation from France and hoped it would be realized.

Sudjatmoko noted that the Central Java provincial government was committed to making every district in the province environmentally friendly.
