REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PALEMBANG -- Construction of the Keramasan flyover project in this South Sumatra capital is to be completed in two years or in 2017.

"Work will start this year and next year it would be operational," head of the third National Road Executive Board Thomas Setiabudi Aden said here on Friday.

Thomas said construction of the project is urgent to cope with worse traffic jams in the city.

The 650 meters flyover would split the lane separating the road to the city center from the road leading to the Musi II bridge, he said.

"Work is now underway and it is expected to be finished as scheduled," he added.

Another flyover would be built in the city to link Simpang Bandara and Tanjung Api-Api , also to be fisniehd in two years, he said.

"Flyovers will serve as an alternative road to cope with worse traffic jams in the city," he said.

The flyover is important, especially as the city will co-host the next Asian Games, that would need the support of adequate infrastructure, he said.

Earlier South Sumatra Governor H Alex Noerdin said traffic jams would be much worse in the next several years without capacirty expansion in road infrastructure.
