REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MANOKWARI -- The regional head elections in eight districts in West Papua province ran peacefully on Wednesday, Chief of the Papua Provincial Police Chief Brigadier General Royke Lumowa stated.

"Only the regional head election in Fak-fak district was postponed after the State Administrative Court issued a verdict," he remarked.

Although the election was postponed, the security condition in the district remained under control, he noted.

Lumowa said he had ordered his deputy to the West Papua province to monitor and safeguard the regional head election in the district.

He said the police have adopted a persuasive approach with both the Donatus Nimbitkendik-Abdul Rahman pair who had won the legal battle at the court and the other two pairs of candidates.

Fak-fak became the focus of the West Papua Provincial Police's attention, yet security in the other eight districts was also high on the list of the provincial police's priorities during the regional head elections, he affirmed.

He pointed out that the regional head election in Kaimana district also ran peacefully.

"The security conditions in Kaimana district have been peaceful since the last three weeks. The regional head election also ran peacefully in the district and other regions," he said.
