Indonesia wins one gold medal in world rafting championship

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SUKABUMI -- Indonesian rafting team won a gold medal in world rafting championship in Citarik River, Sukabumi. This achievement earned in the sprint race for U-19 male category.

Indonesia team was in the first position beating the UK and Russia who were finished in second and third place. Indonesia recorded the best time of 1 minute 41.39 seconds, while the UK was finished in 1 minute 42.85 seconds and Russia was in 1 minute 43.06 seconds.

"We are very grateful to give a gold medal for Indonesia," said one of coaches for Indonesian rafting team, Aceng, Tuesday (1/12).

This was for the first time Indonesian rafting team won gold medal in sprint race U-19 male category. According to Aceng, this achievement was obtained after the rafting team conducted heavy exercise.

The Indonesian teams was in the third place in the world rafting championship and successfully beat dozens of participants in other countries. Besides a gold medal, Indonesian rafting team also won four bronze in category of head to head, category of U-23 male and female, and category of U-19 female.

He said, Indonesian teams were still unable to compete with other teams from other countries, mostly in terms of weight, such as Brazil. Brazilian team was already preparing for a long time to follow the world rafting championship.
