Minister of Agriculture: Food imports decreases Rp 52 trillion

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister of Agriculture, Andi Amran Sulaiman, revealed food imports have declined by Rp 52 trillion. While exports, particularly horticulture, has increased by 30 percent.

"Food sector shows good performance. As increase in production, purchasing power of farmers also increase," said Amran after giving Abdibakti Tani Award 2015 to welcome 44th anniversary of KORPRI, Monday (30/11).

Based on data obtained from Directorate General of Horticulture of Ministry of Agriculture, there was a decline in imports of fruits commodity, such as pears, apples, oranges, grapes, litchi, and others.

In 2014, imports of pears were 66,052 tons and in 2015 it decreased to 56,578 tons. While, imports of apples in 2014 were 98,527 tons and in 2015 it dropped to 55,039 tons.

Decline also occurred in imports of grapes from 39,758 tons in 2014 to 31,052 tons in 2015. While, imports of litchi in 2014 were 66,776 tons in 2014 and it declined in 2015 to 29,773 tons.

Significant decline in imports occurred in citrus commodities. In 2015 until November, the imports were 43,302 tons, lower than in the previous year of 118,201 tonnes.
