REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MANILA -- The member countries of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and G20 cooperation have an important role in maintaining regional and global economic stability, according Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla (JK).
"The member countries of APEC and G20 can play an important role in maintaining stability during the global economic slowdown," JK stated in his speech during the APEC CEO Summit here on Wednesday.
According to the vice president, APEC and G20 member countries should continue to play their role to offer stimulus to all stakeholders and encourage free and fair trade relations.
Indonesia, as the largest country in the ASEAN, is keen to maintain strong fundamentals to boost trade, JK emphasized.
The vice president remarked that Indonesia also continues to implement structural reforms through some regulations to ensure investment stability.
JK said the reforms are also aimed at increasing competitiveness in addition to attracting positive investment and creating a favorable trade climate for potential investors.
In order to support investors, the Indonesian government has issued six regulation packages aimed at improving potential business conditions and offering better opportunities to companies.
"Recently, Indonesia has issued six regulations aimed at improving the business climate and offering balanced opportunities to all business persons," JK noted, adding that the country is also taking steps to improve the efficiency of more than 200 businesses and investment regulations.
Indonesia will encourage the concept of tariff reduction in trade that has contributed to rural development and poverty alleviation, or "Development Goods," by adopting a progressive and modern approach to reach a consensus among member countries.
The concept of Development Goods has been raised during the APEC 2015 as the government believes that farmers should be able to avail special facilities from international trade to overcome the challenges and constraints relating to their products at the global level.
Several issues ranging from multilateral trade, trade in services, small and medium enterprises, and global chain values to health, energy security, and anti-corruption efforts were discussed during the APEC meeting being held on November 13-19, 2015.
