REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KUALA LUMPUR -- Consulate General of Republic of Indonesia in Penang, Malaysia, accompanied five fishermen from Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, in proceedings in Majistreet Balik Pulau Court, Pula Penang. The five fishermen were caught by APMM of Pinang, Malaysia.
Executing of Consular Section III of Indonesian Consulate in Penang, Edi Kahayanto, in an official statement, explained that Judge of Majistreet Balik Pulau Court, Nurul Riasyidah bt Mohd Akit, in the trial on Friday (13/11), had decided fined of 10,000 ringgit to 8,000 ringgit for the skipper and each crew.
If they could not pay the fine, then the skipper and each crew will undergo imprisonment for six months and the seized vessel will be detained by the Malaysian Government.
Previously, the Public Prosecutor, Syahrial Bt Syapiee, read out the charges according to Section 15 (1) (a) Deed of Malaysian Fisheries in 1985 that fishing in Malaysian waters without permission, with the threat of a fine of one million ringgit for the skipper and 100 thousand ringgit for crew.
Edi then explained that the fishermen were arrested on 12th October 2015, at around 12:05 pm local time by APMM of Penang in routine operation. At that time, APMM of Penang found a suspicious fishing vessel and successfully stopped the vessel that was without identity.
In the investigation, there were found five fishermen of Indonesian citizen, namely Junaidi (42 years, skipper), Bambang Ismail (20 years, crew), Ilham (20 years, crew, Jamaludin (35, crew), and Dani (16 years, crew). The fishermen were from Labu Beach, Deli Serdang, North Sumatra.
