REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Teluk Lamong Terminal, Tanjuk Perak port, Surabaya, East Java province will provide a new international route for China, Indonesia and South Korea, which bypasses Singapore.
The Director of Operations and Engineering at the Teluk Lamong Terminal (TTL), Agung Kresno Sarwono said on Friday that the new route has been built through cooperation between TTL and three major Korean shipping companies, namely Heung-A, CK Line and Sinokor.
Agung noted that the first shipping via the new route was conducted by MV Lorentia Kwangyang from Pusan-Shanghai-Shekou-Jakarta-Surabaya-Saigon-Shanghai, which then docked at TTL, with a cargo of around 650 crates.
He said the Liberia-flagged vessel, which is 215.10 meters long and 29.92 meters wide was anchored on Wednesday during the opening ceremony of the new route.
Agung added that the Korean shipping company Heung-A, CK Line, and Sinokor are scheduled to provide regular shipping every week via the Teluk Lamong terminal.
"The depth of groove TTL has been attracting from international vessels has a large cargo capacity to anchor in," he said.
According to Agung, MV Lorentia requires a maximum depth of 11.55 meters, while the depth of groove for TTL is 16 meters LWS (low water spring), so it can accommodate a ship weight of 37,900 tons.
TTL drives the world's economy by accommodating such large-capacity vessels, and can reduce the cost of national logistics.
"By applying a semi-automatic system, the TTL management has guaranteed a fast and precise service for international ships," Agung stated.
