REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysia'a Home Ministry has paved the way for both employers and Indonesian migrant workers in the country to apply for obtaining a legal working permit as part its efforts to implement the rehiring program.
This was revealed by the Indonesian Embassy in Malaysia here Saturday.
The Indonesian migrant workers having legal passports and passing Malaysia's medical examination have been allowed to participate in the rehiring program, the embassy revealed in its official announcement.
However, the embassy called on all Indonesians holding temporary working permits not to register until the two countries made an official decision.
The Indonesian embassy in Malaysia has received reports about certain recruitment agencies asking the Indonesian migrant workers to register themselves immediately by depositing a certain amount of money.
The Malaysian Home Ministry has notified the Indonesian embassy in the country that it has approved the International Marketing and Resources Sdn Bhd (IMAN Resources) to assist the Malaysian immigration authorities to deal with the rehiring program.
But the Indonesian embassy asked IMAN Resources to stop all activities relating to the rehiring program until an official decision is made by Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur.
The Indonesian government expressed its support for the rehiring program during a meeting of the two countries' workforce ministers in Kuala Lumpur on October 1.
At the meeting, the two parties agreed to form a task force for finalizing all technical matters before the rehiring program becomes effective.
