REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PRAGUE -- A rally that demanded the Czech Republic's departure from NATO was held on Monday in Prague's Wenceslas Square.

Organised by the No to Bases group, the protesters waved the banners saying "War? Not in Our Name" and "Out of NATO".

The activists said NATO was "a criminal organization" and called for an end to the participation of Czech military in aggressive foreign missions. Some Czech politicians who pushed for membership in NATO were slammed as "traitors".

Marta Semelova, Chamber of Deputies, said her group would still reject the entry to NATO and that leaving NATO would be its program.

She said they want to cancel NATO as it is "a militant criminal pact", adding it should not have any place in this world.

No to Bases spokeswoman Eva Novotna also read a joint resolution as well as other initiatives designed to lawmakers and the government. Among other things, the resolution calls to add an article to protect the peace to the Czech constitution.
