REPUBLIKA.CO.ID,Vice President M Jusuf Kalla said Indonesia and Latvia agreed to improve bilateral relations between the two countries.
"Latvia is one of European Union country, the visa-free can boost tourism and trade in two countries," said the vice president, after a bilateral meeting in the session of the UN General Assembly in New York , United States, Saturday (26/9).
Previously, Kalla held a bilateral meeting with the President of Latvia, Raimonds Vejonis. In the meeting, the two countries discussed about the possibility of opening the embassy and visa-free administration.
Kalla wished that the visa-free can be granted by Indonesia to Latvia and vice versa.
"Visa-free wasn't yet valid for both countries but Indonesian new policy of visa-free will be applied in 1st October 2015," he added.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Retno Marsudi, explained that Latvia has appointed ambassador for Indonesia. While, Indonesia planned to appoint a consul.
"Interestingly, Latvia will open study program of Indonesia in their universities, to learn more about Indonesian," said Retno.
