REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Members of Committee I Regional Representative Council (DPD), Abdul Aziz Khafia, said that single candidate in an election indicates failure of political parties in regeneration process.
"This could potentially have a negative impact on democracy. Therefore, we support the independent candidates," he said, Thursday (6/8).
Abdul Aziz hoped that requirements for independent candidates can be ease and the law can also be addressed.
"The implementation of simultaneous elections seem to be forced," he added.
As reported previously, there are single candidates in some places, namely Tasikmalaya (West Java), Surabaya, Blitar, Pacitan (East Java), Mataram (NTB), Samarinda (East Kalimantan) and Timur Tengah Utara in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
The General Elections Commissions (KPU) reopens the registration for those seven participants. It takes place from 9th to 11th August.
