REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BOGOR -- Tempe has always been favorite foods in Indonesia. However, Tempe is still regarded as a lower socioeconomic class food. Even though, in fact, tempe has higher protein than eggs and meats.
"Tempe is very much beneficial. It can also improve memory," said the chairman of Pergizi Pangan Indonesia, Hardinsyah, Tuesday (4/8).
BPS data in 2012 showed that the consumption of tempe of Indonesian people on average reached seven kilograms per year. Tempe at least gave 10 percent of total daily protein, while eggs only gave 1,25 percent and meat gave 3,15 percent.
Hundreds of studies have been widely proven that tempe is a kind of a nutritious food and a healthy diet. Tempe can be used to overcome the malnutrition. It can also cure diarrhea, hypercholesterolemia and hiperglikimia. So that, people needs a better perception of tempe.
"We are certainly not willing if sometimes tempe is claimed as traditional food of other countries," he said.
