Activist warns of weakening effort againts KY

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Judicial Monitoring Civil Society Coalition (KPP) assessed that the demand abolition of the Judicial Commission (KY) was one of a series of weakening efforts KY. According to KPP, there were things that could be considered a part of that effort.

"Until this day, there are some great effort that can be categorized as a weakness," said KPP in a joint press statement received by ROL, on Sunday, July 13.

KPP consisted of MAPPI-FHUI, Indonesia Corruption Watch, the Center for Law and Policy Studies, ELSAM, Institute for Criminal Justice Reform, Legal Aid Foundation, Indonesia Legal Roundtable, and LeIP.

According to KPP, the weakening of the Judicial Commission through a judicial review of the Judicial Commission Law of 2006. Related to this, the Constitutional Court (MK) canceled the authority of the Judicial Commission in monitoring the judges of Constitutional Court.

Then in 2012, the Supreme Court (MA) canceled the eight points in the Joint Decree of the Supreme Court and the Judicial Commission of the Ethics Code and Code of Judge's Conduct. The most recent (he said) in 2015, the Indonesian Judge Association (IKAHI) filed a judicial review of Judicial Commission Law (UU KY) to the Constitutional Court related to KY involvement in the appointment of Judges Selection.

"Whereas KY involvement in the selection of the appointment of judges is an effort to maintain the integrity and professionalism of the prospective judges for the sake of justice which are clean and dignified," said KPP.

Previously, Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court (MA) non Judicial Affairs Suwardi ask the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) to erase the existence of the Judicial Commission (KY). Deletion was considered that the role of KY was limiting the authority of judiciary.
